While the number of credit union mergers has stayed the same, the relative size has increased. The pandemic may have slowed merger activity, but it has not changed the long-term need for credit unions to seek ways to gain the strategic capability to stay relevant to members, including through mergers.

Because you can’t time a merger like you can a strategic initiative, it is imperative for boards and management to be prepared to evaluate and potentially execute a merger if and when the opportunity emerges.
